ChristianArca.com was the first WordPress template I coded. The design was created by Christian Arca, and my job was to create a quick loading, cross-browser template from it.
Given how image-heavy the design was, my main challenge was optimizing page load time. CSS sprites and image compression were critical in this step.
The site also pulls in data from Twitter, Flickr, and Last.fm. To speed up load times, I modified existing plugins to cache data. This was especially important with the Twitter-for-WordPress plugin which was limited to 100 requests per hour due to the nature of Twitter's API.
