These are a bunch of mini-projects and other widgets that I’m working on. Some projects are old and haven’t been updated in a while, so they may not function fully.
Pulse of the Planet
Pulse of the Planet is an experiment I’m running to visualize tweets in real-time using Google Maps. It makes use of the Twitter Search API, Google AppEngine (in Python), Google Maps API, and the Google Geocoder service. At its start, Pulse of the Planet is visualizing snow-related tweets, but I may change it to monitor the Olympics or other events as they occur.
Sensation and Perception Experiments
Two experiments which I designed and ran for my Sensation and Perception class in Fall 2009. They are designed to measure counting thresholds. Both experiments use HTML5 canvases which requires a modern browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
Expand
Expand is a Chrome Extension that displays the final destination of short links from services like bit.ly.
Life on a Canvas
Life on a Canvas was a project I worked on to acquaint myself with HTML 5 and canvases. It is a simulation of Conway’s Game of Life and I added a bunch of features to make it interactive. Go ahead and enjoy it!
Tier3
Tier3 attempts to build itself as a layer on top of social news sites like Digg and reddit. This is similar to how Digg and reddit are layers on top of blogs, news, and other sites.
Pong
Ever wanted to play a version of Pong written in JavaScript? Me neither, but that didn’t stop me from remaking this classic in JavaScript!
Use the up and down arrow to control the paddle on the left, and page up and page down for the right paddle. Also, make sure you click on the little box at the bottom of the screen first, and play to the first to three.
Radius
Radius is a portal-esque web page. Shiny graphics, Ajax, and APIs are at the heart of this prototype. It may not be practical, but it is an experiment in making a portal type page. It’s fun to use and has features.
