Windows 7, Digsby, and New Sites
February 12, 2009
It’s been a few weeks since my last update, and I’ve been busy in the interim. School work, The RPI Ski & Snowboard Club, and some web projects have all been keeping me busy. Among those web projects are the website for the 2009 NEACURH Regionals Conference, hosted by the RPI Residence Hall Association, and a site for the New Clermont Project, which aims to travel the Hudson River from Albany to New York City in a hydrogen fuel cell-powered boat, reminiscent of Robert Fulton’s Clermont.
Recently, I installed the Windows 7 Beta on my Lenovo T61. It terms of performance, 7 is definitely faster than Vista. Games, although I haven’t tried yet, are supposed to perform much better in Windows 7, as well. All the new features of Windows 7, are also well executed and useful. Overall, I like what I see and can’t wait for the retail version to be released
Finally, I’ve decided to use Digsby as my IM client of choice. After growing tired of using AIM, I went searching around for a new program. I found Digsby after a few minutes and saw a lot of positive reviews. It does a great job of managing multiple IM services, email, and social networks. Digsby ran into some server issues, the day after I installed it, leaving me out of luck for most of the day, but they’ve promised to make the service more reliable. All things considered, Digsby’s great at what it does, and I liked it better than Pidgin or Trillian (although I’m still waiting for my Trillian Astra Beta code).
