Google I/O and Windows 7

Today marks the beginning of a two day web extravaganza in San Francisco, hosted by Google. The event is Google I/O and it features numerous presentation on topics like Ajax, HTML5, and Google made technologies, like OpenSocial. The keynote speech, which just finished, was jammed full of information. TechCrunch has a comprehensive summary of the speech along with pictures.
Google Gears, which enables access to online content even when offline, got a major user today.Myspace will soon begin using Google Gears for allowing users to sort and search their inboxes very quickly. Because of the heavy computing requirements, this type of functionality was previously unavailable to Myspace users and is still unavailable to users of Facebook.
On Microsoft’s end, Steve Ballmer of Bill Gates demonstrated a preview release of Windows 7 at the All Things Digital Conference. Windows 7, the planned successor to Vista, is expected to be released in early 2010, and looks to be significantly different version of Windows. Windows 7 will support multi-touch, the touch screen technology on the iPhone and Microsoft Surface. Quick note: Microsoft Surface is in limited release, apparently AT&T stores have been equipped with them as of this April.
